What customers say?

“ Just wow.. We arrived during happy hour and they were not too busy. So fresh! The Rajas con queso is highly recommended. They may not be the least expensive but the food is incredible. We ordered the carnitas which was lean, yet juicy and the mole poblano was a delicious experience. The restaurant is very clean and the wait staff is attentive. If you come here, think gourmet Mexican worth the visit. It is not your run-of-the mill Mexican restaurant. ”

“ Ordered the queso and chips appetizer and the pescado frito tacos... Queso dip is flavorful, creamy and has many textures. The tacos are composed simply, ingredients taste fresh, you have the option to spice it up with jalapeños or hot sauces. The pickled onion and cabbage slaw help balance the fried fish, along with the Chipotle mayo—be sure to add yourself a squeeze of lime or cilantro. Fast, attentive service. Sweet, respectful, and helpful staff. Usually a nice mix of bustling conversations and locals filling the room. I have been 5 times at least. Especially thankful for the staff member whom delivered my cell phone to my home after her shift. This restaurant is a treasured neighborhood gem! ”

- Sandra Morrison -

“ One of my all time favorites… best tamales in Louisiana. Great service, food and killer drinks. Margaritas are on point and the beer is nice and cold. Love the atmosphere… a little “seat yourself” cafe style. The food is super fresh, house made tortillas and rotating specials, all a great price. ”

“ We go to El Pavo Real every few months and it is always outstanding. The dishes are thoughtfully composed, sourced with good, fresh ingredients, and consistently executed perfectly. There's no dry, tired fish or soggy carnitas or grocery store tortillas. The menu draws upon dishes loved in actual Mexico, not the five-ingredient remix plates of American Tex-Mex. But the plates also aren't fussy or precious, and the price ($9-12 for taco plates, $15-25 for most entrees) is approachable for a family on a weeknight. Throw in an art-loving, professional-punk aesthetic, a daily tamale special, fresh churros, and a crazy waving arm guy on the roof, and you have one of our family's favorite places. ”

“ A solid Mexican option in New Orleans. My margarita was good, and I really enjoyed the chilaquiles – lots of flavor. The plantains with mole were also tasty. While I don't have a ton of NOLA Mexican food experience to compare it to, El Pavo Real definitely hit the spot. ”

“ I met a friend here for his birthday. He selected the spot, I had not been here before. I am so glad he introduced me to this place. The atmosphere is warm, fun and colorful. The food was really good, an authentic Mexican cuisine. The service was also excellent, both friendly and attentive. I will definitely be back. ”

“ It was my first time dining here, but not my last. Completely enjoyed my food. I ordered the crab and avocado quesidilla. #Scrumptious Made with 100% real crab meat. #Yummy ”
